Night Boat To Cairo
Deceives The Eye
As the commercial release of Night Boat To Cairo was featured on the Work Rest & Play EP that played at 33⅓ rpm, a separate 45 rpm single was pressed for jukeboxes (this one) and DJs (see below).
Strange that a new label was designed for the large hole release but with half the text missing
Variant 1

Label profile: 44mm lip, 38mm hole.
Variant 2

Label profile: slope from 62mm to 47mm, 38mm hole.
Lacquer cut by Steve ‘SA’ Angel at Trident Studios, London W1. Features both CBS and Tranco markings in the runouts. Probably a CBS plate pressed at Tranco.
Runouts – either A4 or A5 and B1:
A-Side: BUY DJ 71 A4 STEVE’S THE ROCKINGEST SOUND / BUY DJ 71 A5 STEVE THE ROCKINGEST SOUND
B-Side: BUY-71-B1-DJ SA GOES AROUND AND AROUND…
This is an identical pressing to the DJ version but with different labels.
4-track version
There is a 4-track version, same tracks as the EP, but it plays at 45 rpm. It has the same cat# and labels as the 2-track

Runouts (either A4 or A5 and B1):
A-Side: BUY.71.JB.A.4 .. THE ROCKINGEST SOUND STEVE / BUY-JB-71-A5… (incomplete)
B-Side: BUY.JB.71.B.1 GOES AROUND & AROUND
Small hole
There is also a version with a small centre hole, same as 2 track DJ version but with JB labels.
